In recent years the popularity of European style nymphing has grown rapidly with readily available information provided on the internet and increased travel to European fishing destinations. As a result anglers are becoming familiar with a wide range of different techniques within this genre, including Czech and Polish nymphing and the short line, long leader nymphing methods employed by the French and Spanish.
The main things in common about nymph rods used are they tend to be long - most commonly 10ft or 11ft - although are some new 9ft 6" rods which work well. Nymphing rods need to be light weight, particularly for Czech and Polish styles when high sticking can become very tiring. Rods for casting long leaders and nymphs upstream tend to have a faster action than and cast a line weight 3-4, whereas those fishing the Czech method with a team of heavy nymphs may require a fuller loading action casting a heavier lineweight.
